Here...We...Go

Hello everyone, my name is Tyler Barton, and I am a freshman here at Huntington University. I hail from the wonderful city of Peoria, Illinois (imagine a city right in the middle of Illinois). It is worth noting that one of the main reasons I chose to come here to Huntington is because it is one of the only schools in this area that offers any degrees in the digital media arts. It is also worth noting that I have never blogged before in my life, so please bear with.

So far I have found this class to be rather intriguing. Probably the most interesting subject that I think we have discussed is the experimental films that we watched on the first day. I will be frank and say that I have little interest in doing such films myself, but Professor Leeper brought up an interesting point that changed my perspective on them a little bit. He said that such films can introduce new techniques that might not have otherwise been imagined. While I do not think them to be as interesting or as "high" of an art form as films that tell more concrete stories, I was nevertheless convinced by Professor Leeper that they have a place in the digital media arts. I will be discussing the ideas of the various forms of films in future posts. In fact, I shall even post one below (although it is more of a showing of what animation is, rather than a more ambiguous experimental film).

  1. Nice video Tyler,

You may see these as experimental or "high art" but in reality they are simply reminders of how fascinating the rules that govern our life are. A simple bycicle wheel delivers in a world where multi-million dollar productions often do not. I find this to be
an interesting tribute to the Creator of these rules . . .whether the artist intended it that way or not.
