review on "Devoition"
I wanted to blog about the short film we saw in class the other day called "Devotion". I was really impressed by the build up to the resolution that he was actually a dog the whole time. I've always wanted to make films that have a twist ending to make the audience have an "ooohhh no way!" moment; similar to M. Night Shylaman's movies. Anyone can have a twist ending, but how that twist ending is supported through out the film I think is the real skill in story telling. The subtle hints or even the more blatant inclinations are what intrigue me so much. The directors of these type of films basically feed you the twist ending but since you don't expect the outcome you completely disregard a lot of the information given through out the build up. Also like Mr. Leeper said in class, this delivery is what makes people want to watch your movie more then once; its not all about the punch line!
