West Bank Story
It's really refreshing when you see a film that seems new and pulls surprises. In the YouTube era and with the onslaught of media everywhere, it seems like you've seen everything under the sun. This surprised me. I also enjoyed the courage of this film. Although it didn't necessarily insult a culture, this is not really the type of film that gets made in our politically correct world, even if it's independent.
I like that this shows how pointless hating each other is. It is not an in-your-face awareness film, but instead it invites us in through songs and comedy, and then eases into some deep cultural problems. The production value is huge, and I can really appreciate all the time they put into this. It shows. They pulled off a great storytelling technique that so many fail to do: entertain and also tell a message.
