So I watched the Tree of Life last night with another student and it was an interesting experience. Visually this movie was beautiful. It was up there with Planet Earth in terms of beauty and amazing shots.
I felt like the movie did actually have a plot unlike what everyone else said about it. I'm pretty sure the intent of the movie was to show the struggle within Sean Penn's character in his early childhood, dealing with his abusive father and his brothers.
The overarching theme of grace was very good and I enjoyed how they interspersed Scripture into the movie. Really in the end I watched a very long movie that was enjoyable, but I did not see it in the same light as either the critics who thought it was the worst movie ever made and those like Leeper who thought it was amazing. I did like it, but it didn't change my life.
