Quiz 1: Bunny

I stumbled upon the short film Bunny nine years ago while exploring the Ice Age DVD extras for a "deleted scenes" or "bloopers" section. The short film had a place on there, and I curiously watched it because bunnies are cute. I remember how back then, at the ripe old age of 8, I had thought the film was boring and weird; Nobody spoke, the rabbit was creepy, and the moth was horrifyingly large. It was not what I had expected. I remember feeling like the entire thing was a pointless edition to one of my favorite movies at the time. It wasn't even that funny, and I expected everything to come from the Ice Age DVD to be hysterical.

Imagine my surprise when nine years later, the same short film is shown in my Intro to DMA class as an example of the Gospel as Fairytale. Imagine my even more surprise when I realized that the entire film was about death and crossing over. That seems like a pretty heavy topic to be including as an extra on the Ice Age DVD.

Nevertheless, watching this film now was beautiful. I gathered that the moth was actually the bunny's late husband, guiding the love of his life to Heaven so they can once again be together. I really think that's the sweet and simple story of the film: Reuniting with the people you love in Heaven, and of course with God. It's easing really. The film conveys that the tranquility of Heaven (represented by the calming blue light Bunny encounters) is infinitely better than the transition of the bustle of human life (represented by the irritation Bunny has with the moth.)

And isn't that so? God says himself that Heaven is the Kingdom. It's a paradise. This film portrays that message, and rather than cause anxiety over the inevitable death, it offers hope. Hope that one day again we'll be with the one's we loved, and the One who created us.
