The Lost Film Look
I recently watched the film "The Hunger Games." I actually only watched roughly the last hour and a half. The movie seemed to be very action packed to me. The movie was also very visually appealing. Many scenes were set in the wilderness. The colors of the forest popped off the screen. The film almost looked too good in my opinion. More and more films are being shot digitally now and not on film. I'm not sure if "The Hunger Games" was shot on film or digital, but it didn't look like film to me. When I think of a film look I think of older films like "Jaws" or "Star Wars. "These films are over forty years old. They look grainy at times, but I fell in love with that look. The old film look was always a look I wanted to achieve. There is just something about shooting on actual film that I've always dreamed of. Don't get me wrong, if you wanted to give me a RED Scarlet I wouldn't turn it down, but I've always dreamed of shooting on a Panavision film camera. Today you can get clean high definition video for cheap, and that is why I desire the old film look so much more.
