"Maniac"
Today I am going to blog over this short film that I have watched about 4 times now, and just can't get over how beautiful it really is. It was directed by a well known actor we all know Shia LaBeouf, it stars also I famous rapper that most of us know too Kid Cudi. I do warn you that the film is kind of "bad" from HU standards or whatever that means. It tells a story of a documentary team that follows these two serial killers, and around while they plot to murder there next victims. I love the camera angles used in this film, the way the actors act, and really put off the vibe that you are really there with them. I would love to see Shia direct more things in the future, if I knew he was actually good at it. I highly do recommend that everyone give up 10 mins of your time and watch this film.

I stumbled upon this back in June because I spend far too much time on the internet haha I thought it was a very different kind of short film. It left me with far more questions and actually no answers. Why was the documentary team following them? Where were the cops? Why did Kid Cudi ask the other guy if he "got his eight"? Were they really serial killers, or just addicted to power?
ReplyDeleteI think I could spend all night trying to analyze the subtle meaning and story behind this film. But I won't, because that would take away from the mystery and horror that this film is. I agree with you though, I would love to see Shia do more of this stuff... maybe even build off of this film. I know that he recently said in an interview that he's breaking away from the mainstream "Hollywood" film industry and moving into more Indie stuff, so hopefully more of his art will be released in the next few years.
In the mean time, I think it's so cool someone else has happened upon this film! How did you find it, if you don't mind my asking?
I find this film intriguing, well-filmed, disturbing, and kind of pointless. I can understand why someone would use graphic images and violence to show you something....and maybe the point of this film was to show us the level of evil human beings are capable of. But I honestly found it to be more fruitlessly disturbing than significantly revealing of anything beyond the evil in the world...
ReplyDeleteNow I don't mean to criticize what you got out of this, because I know that you obviously found it meaningful, and so I'm glad that it could speak to you that way....I just have a different way of seeing things I guess....
But thanks for posting it! Good conversation material :)
